In the Common Core, second-grade “fractions” live in geometry, not in the fractions strand — the standard is CCSS 2.G.3: partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares; describe them with the words halves, thirds, fourths, a third of, a fourth of; and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, or four fourths.
